What’s the difference between 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging?

  1. Traditional 2D ultrasounds work by “listening” to sound waves in a single plane. The ultrasound is directed reflected back resulting in black and white images that are “sections” of the big picture.
  2. 3D ultrasounds work by process known as "surface rendering”. The same sound waves used in 2D are sent down at different angles. These reflections are interpreted through sophisticated software, and compile the sections to create a 3D form, thus showing the surface of the baby, or body part viewed.
  3. 4D ultrasound is captured in the same manner as 3D ultrasound, but with movement that puts the 3D form into motion, showing more than just 1 view.

Are 4D Ultrasounds safe?
We ask that you speak with your doctor regarding any medical questions prior to your visit with us because your doctor is your best source of information. Extensive studies over 30 years have not found that ultrasounds show any harm to patients, or in the case of a maternity ultrasound, to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States.

Is a 4D Ultrasound Visit the same as a visit to your doctor?
Miracle imaging requires that each patient have verification of prenatal care from their OB/GYN physician prior to taking part in our services. At no time is this viewing session to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. THIS IS A NON-DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE, thus should not replace any element of your prenatal care.

Most ultrasounds ordered by your doctor are covered by insurance, however if you elect to have a non-diagnostic ultrasound on your baby, insurances will not cover it. This should not replace your doctor ordered ultrasound. We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards for your convenience.

When Should I come in for a 3D/4D Ultrasound?
Anytime is good for an imaging ultrasound, but you will see different things at different times. Many women choose to come in more than once to see their baby at various stages. The optimal time to see detailed images of the face, feet, and hands of your baby is between 28 - 34 weeks. As the term increases, the results are variable. More fat creates pudgy baby images, and the baby gets increasingly crowded at the end of term and may not produce optimal images at a later term.

Can I Bring guests to my session?

We encourage you to bring your friends and Family. You are welcome to bring up to five (5) people to share and enjoy the experience. Viewing your unborn child will strengthen the closeness and bond, not only with your baby, but with your family and friends around you.

Does Insurance cover a 3D/4D Ultrasound session?
Since this is an elective procedure and is non-diagnostic, Insurance does not cover the costs of our ultrasounds. This does not replace your doctor ordered ultrasound. We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards for your convenience.

How can you tell if it’s a boy or a girl?
We can indicate the sex of your baby so as long as the baby is in good position, generally after 17 weeks. Certain factors such as umbilical cord, legs crossed can prevent the technician from getting a good view. We recommend you follow up with your Doctor for confirmation of the sex.

What will determine the quality of the images?

Many factors are involved in obtaining clear images. We use state-of-the-art equipment and highly qualified technicians trained exclusively in obtaining images that are clear to non-technicians. Some factors may include:

Fetal Position - It may be difficult to get a clear image if the baby is persistently looking face down, cuddling up to the placenta or uterine wall, or hiding behind their hands or feet. Sometimes a short walk or bit of juice will help the baby to move.
Maternal tissue - The more tissue the sound waves need to travel through, the less contrast the resulting images have.
Fetal activity - The best still 3-D photo results come when baby is asleep or still, although it is fun to see the baby in motion.
Gestational development- In 3-D, some babies are best seen at 20 weeks and others at 36, regardless of maternal tissue or other factors. Babies are simply different.

Do I Need a Full Bladder for My 3D/4D Session?
Unlike Traditional 2D Ultrasounds it’s not necessary to have a full bladder. Eat and drink as usual and please come wearing comfortable clothes and do not hold your bladder.

What are the benefits of 3D/4D prenatal Ultrasounds?

3D and 4D Ultrasounds give you the ability to see your baby before he or she is even born! Years ago, expectant parents could only see black and white images though traditional 2D Ultrasounds which were often difficult to understand. Today you have a choice. With the use of 4D color technology and three dimensional real-time movements, we capture the special moments of a mother’s pregnancy that parents can marvel at forever. Studies presented by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) have suggested that 3D ultrasounds will positively influence parents bond with their babies and improve maternal habits such as improved diet, exercise, and help eliminate harmful behaviors.
